Calling ALL Aerialists who are ready to make an act!

Bring your stories, your questions, your ideas, your transitions, and your skills to Mexico, and spend a week in paradise creating or refining your act with Liza.Liza’s aerial act creation workshop, Elements of Choreograpy, has been requested all over the US since 2010, and now, for the first time, you can engage in this unique process in an idyllic immersive environment at the Monkey House in Puerto Escondido. We will use a formulaic approach applicable to any apparatus to focus in turns on character and story, skills and transitions, movement theory and technique, and critical response (feedback) to make your act memorable and uniquely yours. Intermediate/ advanced students welcome; any apparatus. Additional related classes offered: Yoga and Dance Technique (for warm up each morning); Aerial Improv Techniques and Games (for generating aerial movement); Crafting Dynamic and Storied Transitions; Drop Shop: One Up (Add-ons and stacking to up the wow factor on your drops). Duo acts welcome; each participant must pay full fee.

Pre-requisites:  This retreat is for intermediate/advanced students, pre-professionals or professionals. You must be able to stay in the air for 3.5-5 minutes at a time, have the stamina for a 2 hour class, and have a basic fluency on your chosen aerial apparatus. You must be able to hold a hollow body for at least 1 minute, and feel comfortable with inversions and pulling up. Desire to perform a must. Basic act concept highly recommended.

Mornings are slow and unstructured, with individual beach and reflective time. We will begin our working days with a yoga and dance class to get moving, then, after a short break, a class focusing on one specific technique (Improv, Transitions, Drops, etc). Afternoons are for our dedicated act creation practice, with a different focus each day. The last two days we will be performing our acts for one another in the afternoons and engaging in critical response with our peers. Evenings are our own to absorb and process the work done each day. This is truly an immersive week-long workshop. An aerial maker retreat. We are here to create, and also to bear witness to each other’s process.
