Your trip to Mexico

We are so happy that you are coming to our Sweet Retreat in Mexico.

Our Mexico retreats are located in the magical hidden port of Puerto Escondido on the south Pacific coast of Mexico in the state of Oaxaca.  “Puerto” is an international traveler destination, and thankfully not overrun with resorts.  It is a special place.

Your authorized airport taxi/shuttle service is included in your retreat if you book your travel to/from Puerto Escondido airport (PXM).  You can also fly into Huatulco (HUX) airport which is 1.5 hour drive from us.  See below.

Make sure you arrive/depart on designated days of the retreat in order to secure your complimentary taxi and accommodations.  Check the registration page for travel dates.  If you choose to arrive/depart early or late, please let us know so we can book your accommodations for the extra night(s) at $40/night.  You can email us with any questions at

Flights to Puerto Escondido (PXM) originate in either Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Oaxaca City.  There are a few ways to book your travel depending on your interests, budget, and timeline.

Note about getting the CHEAPEST TICKETS!

If you search for flights from your airport to Puerto Escondido, you might see a high priced ticket.  If this happens, we recommend booking a round trip ticket from your airport to Mexico City (MEX), and then a separate round trip ticket from MEX to Puerto Escondido (PXM).  Do 2 separate searches.  We recommend looking on or VivaAerobus.  This can greatly reduce the price (and sometimes length) of your flight.    Note:  If you have trouble  navigating the VivaAerobus website, try using a different browser.

Tips and Options for booking your travel:

Stop in Mexico City for the day or night*

If you have an extra day, we recommend staying overnight in Mexico City on your way here.  There are a few reasons for this.

  1. You can SAVE MONEY on your plane ticket if you book a round trip ticket to Mexico City (MEX), and then a separate round trip ticket from MEX to PXM on VivaAerobus.  The VivaAerobus flights are super cheap.  Depending on the time of year, there might be one or 2 flights per day from MEX to PXM.  Note:  If you have trouble  navigating the VivaAerobus website, try using a different browser.
  2. Mexico City is awesome!  There are so many things to see and do there including museums, restaurants, plazas, markets, and historic ruins.  We love the Frida Kahlo museum!
  3. This breaks up your travel and allows you to enjoy each step of the way.

There are many hotels and hostels in Mexico City to stay in.  We recommend Mexico City Hostel located in the historic center of the city.  It is affordable and friendly offering dorms and private rooms. If you have a quick overnight layover and don’t have time to explore the city, you can stay at Punto DF or Hostel Mexico DF Airport.  They are both a 5 minute drive from the airport.  There are numerous other hotels to choose from, but these are our favorite budget accommodations.  Make sure you hire a taxi from one of the ‘authorized taxi’ stands at the airport.  Pay the cashier and get a receipt to bring to your driver.  You can use uber to get around the city and back to the airport very cheaply.  Feel free to email us with any questions.

Coming straight to Puerto Escondido**

If you don’t have time to stop in Mexico City for a night or you just want to get here, you can book your travel all at once to Puerto Escondido (PXM) airport.  Allow at least 3 hours layover in Mexico City so you can go through immigration and customs and check into your connecting flight with plenty of time.  If you have extra time, you can change money, walk around and get your first Mexican breakfast in the airport.  Then your quick flight to Puerto Escondido lands you just 10 minutes from our retreat!  We like to use kayak or expedia to find the best deals.

Note about LONG LAYOVERS in Mexico City

If you can only find flights with long layovers in Mexico City, do not fret!  You can store your bags in an airport locker (cheap and safe), and take an airport taxi (also cheap and safe) into the city for the afternoon.  There are numerous AMAZING museums, shopping areas, food, and historical sites to see in Mexico City.  It is a wonderful way to break up your flights/travel.  Please feel free to email us at for our personal suggestions!

Fly directly into Huatulco Airport***

Another option is to fly into Huatulco International Airport (HUX) and take a shuttle bus from HUX to Puerto Escondido.  There are nonstop international flights and charter flights to Huatulco from many locations.  This is often the fastest and cheapest option, and we do it all the time.  If you are coming from Canada, try WestJet, SunWing, Air Canada, or Air Transit for flights to Huatulco.  Click here to see more options.  Check to see if that is a possibility for you.  The shuttle bus from HUX to Puerto Escondido is a 2.5 hour ride costing about $5 USD.  You can get a private taxi which takes 1.5 hours for $65 USD.  Both options are safe, and it is a beautiful drive. Click here for detailed instructions about taking the bus from Huatulco to Puerto Escondido / Casa Chango.

If you are still confused or need some advice, feel free to email us at  We are happy to help you find the best flight.   We promise it is worth the trip!  Remember this,

“Every extra flight eliminates 100 assholes.”

We highly recommend purchasing travel and medical insurance during the duration of your trip to protect yourself from any unforeseen circumstances such as illness, injury, inclement weather, retreat cancellation, lost baggage, or medical expenses.

*If you stay the night in Mexico City, you are responsible for booking and paying for your hotel/hostel and transportation while you are there.
**Your taxi from PXM to our accommodation is included in the price of the retreat if you arrive/depart on specified dates.  If you come early or late, you will have to get your own taxi (less than $5).
***If you fly into HUX, you will have to take a bus or taxi to Puerto Escondido, and pay for it yourself.  It is very easy and cheap because there are many buses, taxis and shuttles running every day.
