a WEEK in PARADISE  with new friends, the beach, delicious, fresh, local food, and great training.

Unhinged Fabric•Hoop•Flex Aerial Retreat with Jessica John (@circusmobility) and Brit Crumpton (@aerial_firebird)

You learned the rules. The right way to mount the hoop. The wrong way to climb the fabric. The right way to engage your shoulders. The wrong way to lift the leg.

Now, get ready to break them. What if you wrap over instead of under? Will you like it with an arch instead of a curl? What are your limits?

Are you ready to geek out about movement and find out what makes you different? Unhinged is a retreat for aerialists ready to reclaim their time and lean into their desires to throw a middle finger to being told what to do.

Through new skills, sequences, & creative techniques, you’ll fill your artistic cup & speed up that journey toward your personal goals. You’ll veer into uncharted territory, follow your curiosities, and share supportive space. This retreat is for aerialists who are ready to explore the power of being confidently, radically Unhinged. The purpose of this retreat is to explore the creative and technical possibilities of movement on aerial fabric and aerial hoop.

It’s going to get weird and we can’t wait.

Unhinged Fabric•Hoop•Flex Aerial Retreat will have 3 daily training sessions.

Morning classes include: aerial silks and aerial hoop. Expect a multitude of flippy shebangs, floppy noodles and ding dang doodles. Guided adventures through swooshy, spinalicous puzzles and head scratching melty mazes.

Afternoon classes: alternating hoop/fabric and flexibility.  Channel your inner shrimpy powers or just roll around on the floor with us singing songs about cute pets.

Creative classes: gloriously weird creative methods will be shared with an effort towards an all out, end of day dance party.

The rest of our time can be spent eating amazing, healthy food, swimming in the warm river and ocean, reading in hammocks, and breathing the tropical air.

Intermediate/Advanced Levels WELCOME!

You should have an understanding of and be able to execute the following skills:

Suck on your own toes
Perfect Lion Rolls
at least 15 different ways into Belay
Name every boney landmark in the body
Recite Shakespeare while in a bridge

Please reach out to Brit and Jessica directly if you have questions or need clarity on these prerequisites. They are very open to working with people who are actively working toward skills, even if they aren’t nailing them yet. You can contact them at aerialfirebird@gmail.com and jessica@circusmobility.com.

Brit is a movement artist fostering mental and physical empowerment through formative and inspired aerial coaching. The path she’s chosen in this life has always been about manipulating her body in artistic ways. For 19 years she trained and competed nationally in classical ballet and contemporary dance. In a rebellious turn of events around 2006, she traded her pointe shoes for circus props and gallivanted all over the country slinging fire on the streets for money. Those adventures cannon-balled her into the world of circus, and so began the wild love affair she has with aerial arts today.

She’s currently living in Hawaii where she coaches and mentors students 1-1 across the globe. As a way to connect with a wider range of artists geographically, Brit spends time cooking up virtual intermediate/advanced level aerial hoop workshops and virtual learning opportunities for the hoop community. She continues to fall in love with the process of being a student herself by seeking high level coaches and mentors in the industry to further develop her work. She’s studied extensively in aerial and flexibility with numerous coaches and has completed a plethora of anatomy, aerial movement, dance and coaching specific training programs from industry leading professionals.

Her approach as a coach is largely focused on deep diving into how individual humans execute movement in an effort to increase the scope of possibility for all bodies in the air. In addition to Brit’s infatuation with efficient training and creative development, she is unwavering in her quest for longevity in this art form. She’s passionate about chasing knowledge and uncomfortable situations where personal growth is imminent. Brit’s often looking for ways to share her work with the community on a deeper level and is actively contributing as a coach in The Parish, a virtual space for aerialists of all levels and disciplines—founded by Circus Mobility.

If anyone tests positive and cannot travel back to their home country, they can book accommodations locally.
