This retreat will have 2 daily classes – The morning class will focus on hairhanging technique, floor work, and working with flexibility and core strength for hairhanging. Afternoon classes will be focused on movement, flexibility, and exploring unique and creative ways to innovate your work with hair hanging including moving outside your habitual style of movement, creating new pathways and ideas, musicality, choreography, composition, and character.  We will also practice our skills and sequences with different musical and thematic cues and styles in order to explore our creativity within and around the skills.

We will also have workshops in maintenance and health of your scalp, skin, and hair, core and neck alignment and strengthening, different and unique ways to braid your hair for hair hanging, and creative workshopping for each person’s works in progress. At the end of the week, we will co-create a showcase to present to the public and for videos.

When you aren’t training, you’ll be eating amazing, healthy food, lounging at the pool, swimming in the ocean, reading in hammocks, and enjoying being in nature.  Get ready to move, play, breathe, feel, stretch, and express.  At Casa Chango you are invited to shine and be yourself!

Your Coaches

Head Coach: Mauricio González

My passion ignited at a young age, propelling me into a realm where limits are meant to be shattered. In 2016, the Circus School “Circo Para Todos” in Colombia welcomed me as a lead instructor in aerial techniques, a role that allowed me to cultivate the next generation of circus luminaries. But my journey took a daring turn in 2017, when I harnessed the power of hairhanging and jawhanging, creating an extraordinary graduation act that left audiences spellbound.
In 2018, the world took notice as we graced the International Circus Festival in Havana, Cuba. Amidst breathtaking performances, we claimed the Critic’s Choice Award, an affirmation of the magic that hairhanging could weave into the hearts of onlookers.
Then, in 2019, I ventured to Guadalajara, Mexico, birthing LaFakeProject – a revolutionary hub for artistic innovation and hairhanging brilliance. Our mission? To share the art, the science, and the sheer exhilaration of hairhanging. Since that pivotal moment, we’ve sculpted over a hundred artists, nurturing talent that spans borders and cultures, in the delicate dance between hair and air. But what sets us apart? We’re not just about hanging from locks; we’re about crafting an experience that’s safe, technically refined, and artistically awe-inspiring. Our focus goes beyond hairhanging; it’s about sculpting dreams that challenge the ordinary and redefine the possible.
Today, as we stand at the forefront of hairhanging innovation, LaFakeProject shines as the beacon of transformation. Our dynamic workshops promise a fusion of technique, courage, and the celebration of individuality. From newcomers to seasoned performers, we guide every step with unwavering dedication.
So, are you ready to swing into a world of breathtaking artistry and defy gravity with me? Whether you’re a budding artist or a passionate soul eager to explore, we invite you to take the plunge, challenge norms, and embrace the surreal. Join us on this hair-raising adventure, where hairhanging isn’t just an act; it’s a testament to human potential. Unleash your inner daredevil. Elevate your art. Together, let’s rewrite the skies. “It is so important to learn the safe and proper way to prepare your hair for hair hanging. Mauricio has a wonderful patience and understanding of this challenging craft so knows how to support an artist attempting this for the first time. He has continued to guide and encourage me as I have moved through this journey with various challenges over the last few years. Since I learned this technique I have fallen in love with this beautiful art form. I adore how expressive and fluid it allows you to be”
